of Zeta Phi Chapter

ACHIEVEMENT WEEK:  November 11- 17, 2008
The week that commerates the founding of the fraternity, it focuses on brotherhood, fellowship and high achievement.  Achievement Week ends with the banquet and dance which was held at the Hyatt Hotel downtown. Our guest speaker was Coach Ron Hunter (IUPUI); he was Coach of the Year for the Mid-Continent Confence in 2007.


SCHOLARSHIP - June 01, 2008
This program promotes academic excellence among our high school seniors in the Indianapolis area.  Three scholarships were awarded to worthy students.


 TALENT HUNT PROGRAM - March 16, 2008        
This program provides exposure, encouragement and financial assistance to talented high school students in the Performing Arts.


MEMORIAL SERVICE - March 12, 2008    
This memorial service serves to remember the Omega men that have passed on to Omega Chapter.


RECLAMATION AND RETENTION - January 21 and February 03, 2008 
This program seeks to reach out to inactive Omega men and trying to reactivate them into the programs of Omega. 
      
Jermaine O’Neal Food Give-a-Way (January 03, 2008)
The brotherhood helped pass out food boxes to over 350 needy families. This event took place at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The brothers helped carry the donated food boxes and drinks to the family vehicles.

100 Black Men Career Fair (January 27, 2008)
The 100 Black Men of Indianapolis along with Jack & Jill put on a Career Presentation Day at Arlington High School. They lacked engineers to inform the young men so Brothers: Eugene Hawkins, Mickey Plunkett and Darren Bost represented while Brother Tim Brown talked about the I.T. field. The event was from 3:00pm to 5:30pm.


Juneteenth Celebration (June 13, 2008)
This event took place at Holy Angel’s Catholic Church. This was a fundraiser for the church. The cost was free to the public to participate in all the fun activities. The church sold fish dinners while the kids were able to learn the history about the Emancipation Proclamation. The brothers conducted a voter’s registration drive at the event. There was live music, art, and the kids played video games.  


Chapter Matinee – ‘White Owt Affair’ (June 13, 2008)
Participants were asked wear something white or all white to this event. The event was held at the Cloud 9 nightclub.  The proceeds from this event are directed to the general and the scholarship fund.


Men’s Day Church Program (June 22, 2008)
The brothers visited Greater St. Marks MBC to support their Men’s Day Program. We arrived early so that we could all sit together at Brother Rev. Joy Thornton’s church. The guest speaker for Men’s Day was Brother Stith. Brother Stith was a former ambassador to Tanzania.


Blues BBQ (July 11, 2008)
The men of Omega was asked to monitor the crowds, set-up tables, assist the vendors, operate games and move music equipment at the Indiana Avenue Blues BBQ Family Reunion Festival. This was a free event held for the general public.


AKA/Omega Joint Matinee (August 15, 2008)
The joint matinee was geared to help raise money for the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation. The matinee was held at the Ice Lounge which is located downtown.  


5th Quarter (September 19, 2008)
The men of Omega volunteered to help out at a local high school dance (5th Quarter) after the school’s football game. We were there to show our presence as black men and to monitor and guide our young black males. We talked to all the students that showed up to have a good time. We help feed the students. We played games with them and we had one-on-one straight talk with some of the students.


Diabetes Run/Walk (October 18, 2008)
The men of Omega volunteered to help with this event. The location of the event was Military Park downtown. We helped with the registrations, food tables and clean-up duties.  


Mozel Sanders Thanksgiving Day Dinners (November 27, 2008)
The brotherhood helped Mozel Sanders with their annual event at Butler University. The event purpose is to feed the homeless families throughout the Marion County area. The brotherhood helped prepare the Thanksgiving Day Dinners on the eve of Thanksgiving.      


Martin L. King Day Event (January 21, 2008)
The social action crew volunteered at the Lilly's Fitness Center on MLK Day from 8:00am to 2:00pm. We helped supervise kids from 5-12 years old at the Childrens Day Program along with volunteers from the Martin Luther King Center. We helped with the following workshops: creative arts, dance, poems and history. The Martin Luther King Center sponsored this event for the children of Lilly's employees.   


Engineering Fair (February 20, 2008)
The engineering brothers of the Omega volunteered at the National Society of Black Engineers's (NSBE) Annual Engineering Fair. The fair was held at the Wheelers's Boys & Girl Club.  This year's event was sponsored by Shrewsberry & Associates. We had a total of 120 plus kids that attended this event. The kids all received hands-on advice and information about all types of engineering disciples.


Clothing Drive (March 07, 2008)
The men of Omega picked up clothes from the brothers after our chapter meeting on Friday. The following Monday the men clothes were delivered to a male shelter, 'Homeless Intiative Program Center'. The female and kid clothes were going to be delivered to a different shelter for abused women but this center took care of this need as well. We dropped off a total of 14-large bags of clothes.


School Spring Fling (March 15, 2008)
The men of Omega were asked to return to Westlake Elementary School again this year to help with the School Carnival. The brothers helped by operating games, worked crowd control, and awarded the kids prizes according to the numbers of tokens that they won.


Shoe Drive (April 26, 2008)
The men of Omega were present at the Indiana State Fairgrounds - Exposition Hall to help with the Mount Paran Shoe Drive. This annual event was pushed back from December of last year due to the economy. The shoe drive served over 2000 people thoughout Marion County on this day. The program is geared to help kids from 3 years old to 18 years old that need shoes.


School Lock-In (May 16, 2008)
The men of Omega volunteered to participate in the 'Gentlemen of Success' program. We gave support to a School Lock-In for young men. This event took place at Westlake Elementary School from 6:00pm to 6:45am. The young men had to chance to talk with professional of all trades. They played games, attended workshops, learned life skills, team building, discussed peer pressure & conflict resolution and ate plenty of food.


Pan-Hellenic Picnic (June 07, 2008)
The picnic was held at Douglas Park from 11:30am to 5:30pm. The brothers volunteered to run the grill for this function. This was an Indianapolis area Greek sponsored event.


Soap Box Derby (June 07, 2008)
This was the first race of the year for the 'Mayor's Cup'. The Indianapolis Housing Agency sponsored some of their kids to to compete in this race. We volunteered to help the agency and the kids out for the event. The brothers worked two shifts. We helped work on the cars, load and unload cars, drove cars to pole positions on top of the hill and feed the kids that participated in racing.  
Omega / Kappa Golf Challenge (June 07, 2008)
Congratulations to the brothers for winning the 2008 golf challenge. We won a very tight battle against our rivals.


Soap Box Derby (June 21, 2008)
This was the second race of the year the 'All-American Race'. The Indianapolis Housing Agency sponsored some of their kids to to compete in this race. We had seven drivers from the Mayor's Cup to qualify for this race. The brothers again worked two shifts. We helped work on the cars, load and unload cars, drove cars to pole positions on top of the hill and feed the kids that participated in racing.  


AKA / Omega Golf Tournament (August 16, 2008)
The golf tournament was part two (part one was the matinee on Friday) of the weekend fundraisers by both the AKA's & the Omegas for the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation. This tournament was called the "Drive FORE the Cure".   


Habitat for Humanity (August 30, 2008)
The men of Omega worked inside the Habitat for Humanity main warehouse. We were put in charge to layout and cut new carpet for future Habitat homes. The different types of carpet had to unrolled, measured, cut and then rolled back up with the measured size attached.


Habitat for Humanity (September 06, 2008)
The men of Omega helped make a dream come true for Ms. Sharmeka Brown. She is a single parent that also helped with the building process. This home is located at 2353 Sheldon Street. The brothers worked on the inside of the home. We built the closets and the pantry rooms. Ms. Brown house was completed the following weekend.


CCC Parade (October 08, 2008)
The parade was held downtown. The brothers rode in five vechicles during the parade this year. The brothers and the AKA's conducted a voter's registration drive during the parade.


Freedom Fund Banquet (October 27, 2008)
This NAACP banquet was held at the Ritz Charles Hotel (12156 N. Meridian St.). The event was attended by our chapter Basileus, Curtis White and 1-local NAACP brother, Eugene Hawkins from the chapter.   


Black Santa (December 15, 2008)
The men of Omega helped radio station WTLC-106.7FM with their Black Santa Workshop. The event allowed kids to be photographed with Santa and receive a gift bag after they took their picture. Brothers shared the Santa duties.  The brothers helped with crowd control and also served as Santa’s elves.


We Can Feed the Hungry (December 20, 2008)
The men of Omega helped the Indiana Black Expo organization with their 'We Can Feed the Hungry' program. This event took place at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. The brothers helped unload boxes and crates of food from semi-trucks. We then helped sort the various food items and prepared the food bags that were to be giving out on the following day.  The program helped to feed over 300 families in Marion County. 


Charles R. Drew Blood Drive & Health Fair (February 23, 2008)
The brothers held our Charles R. Drew Blood Drive & Health Fair at the Municiple Gardens Family Center. There were over 25-vendors that came out to participate in the health fair. We also had some student volunteers that helped out during the event. The social action crew even found time to conduct a Voter Registration Drive.  


Black Expo Health Fair (July 13, 2008)
The men of Omega volunteered to work at the health booth for the Marion County Health Department. Our duties were to support the nurses by way of crowd management, copy documents, assist the patients to available nurses and to direct patients to other health screen vendors.
